TODAY'S HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Master Prompt Engineering - Learn the four-step framework for creating high-impact prompts

  • Future of AI Voice Interaction - Exploring the evolution from text to voice-based AI assistants

  • Government AI Procurement - Updates on new federal guidelines for AI technologies

  • LLM Optimization Techniques - How to maximize output quality across different AI models

INTRODUCTION: In today's AI Biz Hour, hosts (@andywergedal) and John Allen (@AiJohnAllen) delivered a masterclass on prompt engineering during their "Prompt Monday" session. From basic structures to advanced XML/JSON techniques, the episode unpacked how businesses can leverage precise prompting strategies to achieve remarkable results with AI. As @RealDealCPA demonstrated, the right prompt can transform "what would normally take a month of work" into just a few hours of AI-assisted productivity.

MAIN INSIGHTS:

THE FOUR-STEP PROMPT FRAMEWORK

Andy Wergedal shared a powerful four-step approach to effective prompting that consistently delivers superior results:

  1. Define the Role - Tell the AI how to think by assigning it a specific identity (e.g., "Act as a nutritionist" or "You are an SEO expert")

  2. Provide Background Information - Give relevant context the AI needs to understand your situation

  3. Clarify the Objective - Explicitly state what you want to accomplish

  4. Specify the Desired Format - Indicate what type of output you need (article, script, bullet points, etc.)

"Think of the LLM by eliminating 350 degrees of possible answers, and narrow the boundaries into that little 10% they have to focus on. Then ask your prompt." - Andy Wergedal

This framework significantly improves responses by constraining the AI's focus, eliminating the need for multiple follow-up questions and refinements.

ADVANCED PROMPT STRUCTURES

Several speakers, including Nathan J Clement and Dallas, elaborated on using structured formats like XML, JSON, and Python to enhance prompt effectiveness:

  • XML Formatting - Helps AI recognize where sections start and end, creating clearer structure

  • JSON Schema - Provides consistent formatting for complex nested information

  • Python Code Structure - Enables more programmatic approaches to prompt engineering

Nathan explained: "The main benefit is that it knows when certain parts start and end. It's not magic - it's providing structure and leveraging the fact that a huge amount of training data is formatted this way."

Dallas added that these structured approaches help the AI produce more reliable, repeatable outputs by clearly delineating different components of your request.

EVALUATING PROMPT EFFECTIVENESS ACROSS MODELS

@RealDealCPA described his methodology for optimizing prompts across different LLMs:

  1. Create your prompt with a specific goal in mind

  2. Test it across multiple platforms (Perplexity, DeepSeek, Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, Grok)

  3. Identify which model produces the closest output to your expectations

  4. Double down on that specific model for similar tasks

"I put in the 5 or 6 different LLMs. And one of them gets closer to what I was expecting on the output. Then I double down on that one." - John Allen

This comparative approach recognizes that different LLMs excel at different tasks, from lead generation to content editing to audience segmentation.

FUTURE OF VOICE-BASED AI INTERACTION

The conversation turned to the evolution toward voice-based AI assistants, with insights on how this will transform prompting:

  • Voice agents will likely use pre-configured prompts that shape how they interact

  • Businesses will set up AI personalities and response patterns in advance

  • Users will be able to customize voice tones, from formal business assistants to familiar voices

Nathan highlighted that companies like Baby are pioneering this approach: "You would enter your prompt into your agent's definition, and then it would always interact with you in the same way."

The Board - Andy described his customized AI consultation tool that simulates advice from diverse thinkers:

"I call it The Board. It's a number of very famous thinking people with different perspectives. And then I ask a question to say, 'Well, what does the board think?' And then each one of them, including Samuel Clemens, Aristotle, Lincoln, Dan Pena, Grant Cardone, Joe Rogan, Alex Hermosi, and GaryVee, will tell me what they think."

This approach leverages AI's ability to emulate different perspectives, creating a virtual advisory board tailored to your specific questions.

EXPERT CORNER:

@RealDealCPA, a regular contributor, shared insights on narrowing AI prompts for better business results:

"A big aspect of it is chunking down to the smallest possible detail you can. The more broad you go, the more hallucinations I think you're gonna get."

@RealDealCPA recommended using custom GPTs for specialized tasks like analyzing tax returns, noting that models start to understand your specific needs over time: "After a few times, it starts to give you information that's exactly what you're looking for."

QUICK HITS:

  • Add structure to prompts using XML tags, JSON formatting, or defined sections like "Who You Are," "Your Task," and "Output Format"

  • Challenge the AI to critique its own outputs by asking "How could this be improved?"

  • Test your prompts across multiple AI platforms to identify which model works best for specific tasks

  • Consider creating a custom board of virtual advisors with different perspectives for complex decisions

  • Ask the AI how it prefers to receive information about a particular topic to optimize communication

  • Use local, unrestricted LLMs for tasks requiring more creative or unfiltered responses

  • Remember that context windows limit how much information an AI can process at once

  • Purple Pill - Community resource with prompt examples and templates

  • LM Studio - Local LLM platform for testing prompts

  • My AI Tutor - Use my Promo CodeAIJohnAllen” Platform with multibot capabilities and file upload features
